Erik Rabasca

Artist, songwriter, artist, producer, collaborator in service of the universal language

Erik Rabasca is a recording and performing artist, songwriter, producer, and founder of the independent label Highest Frequency Records — a musician whose restless creativity and genre-defying sound have made him one of the most distinctive voices in the independent music landscape.

A true musical chameleon, Rabasca has moved fluidly between folk, funk, indie, jazz, reggae, and soul with an experimentalist’s restlessness and free improvisers’ search for meaning over the past 20 years, weaving multiple styles into something entirely his own. His lyrics carry the observational depth of Dylan, the spiritual grounding of Marley, and the plainspoken heart of John Prine, while his instrumental voice draws from the soulful melodicism of Dickey Betts and the atmospheric sweep of David Gilmour. Indie blog Pitch Perfect captured it well: “Rabasca doesn’t sing from a soapbox, but rather from the same even ground on which we all stand. His lyrics are astute observations brought pleasantly into the light, showing them for what they are and asking others to see what he saw.”

His forthcoming album New Scrolls (June 2026) marks another turn in his career — a deep dive into country folk & swing and Americana where a classic roadhouse vibe meets the town hall, with the lyrical soul of his influences intact and the playing as alive as ever.

Rabasca’s story is unique, to say the least. He has toured extensively across the United States and performed internationally in Ethiopia, Jamaica, Canada, and Thailand. His former moniker, Light Warriors, was personally selected by multi-Grammy winner Jon Batiste to open Batiste’s appearance at Stamford, CT’s acclaimed Alive at Five concert series, and also opened for Grammy winner Mike Farris (Screaming Cheetah Wheelies). A longtime figure in the East Coast reggae scene in the early 00s, Rabasca has collaborated and toured with reggae legend Mad Professor and shared the stage with classic reggae acts Sugar Minott, Culture, The Meditations and Grammy winners SOJA, Easy Star All Stars, among many others at clubs and festivals throughout the 2000s.

He has graced notable stages across the New York tri-state area and beyond, with appearances at SOB’s, Tarrytown Music Hall, Rockwood Music Hall, The Bitter End, The Knitting Factory, Daryl’s House Club, Cafe Nine, Bijou Theater, Park City Music Hall, the HOPE Rocks Festival, Poughkeepsie’s Kaal Rock Park Concert Series, and many more stages across the US.

In 2016, Rabasca founded Highest Frequency Records whose mission “serving universal language” has led to some genre-blending and singular sounds. Since then, he has produced, co-produced, and released over a dozen albums, EPs, and multiple singles across a range of projects — all to critical underground acclaim. His roster of projects as a leader Light Warriors, Human Tribes Collective, Other Planes of There, and cuebrane and as a co-leader with Lions Gate, Ecstatica, Strike Generation and The Connecticut Hope Collective each reflects a different dimension of his musical vision. A dub and world obsessive, he has released albums and eps by his Lions Gate mates, Yako 440 & Godbody 108

Today, Rabasca is primarily performing as a solo acoustic artist at folk venues throughout Connecticut and the Hudson Valley — intimate settings that bring his storytelling front and center, and remind audiences why, across every genre and every stage, his voice has always been worth leaning in to hear. He also collaborates in multiple improvisational projects whose recordings he hopes to release on Highest Frequency in the coming year.
